Week 11 Football Forecast

By David Keever and Mike Powell —

Last week, Mike gained a game on David by going 8-2, while David was 7-3.  Mike boldly picked a Hickory upset win over South Caldwell and got it right.

This week’s list includes several big matchups, including a pair of good ones in the South Fork 2A Conference featuring West Lincoln at East Lincoln and Newton-Conover at Maiden.

Here we go with Week 11.

West Lincoln at East Lincoln: MP: This renewal of the cross-county rivalry matches two teams that are jockeying for a favorable playoff seeding. Both the Mustangs and Rebels are 3-2 in the South Fork 2A and 7-2 overall. The records reflect the even nature of this game, so it should be a good one. I give the Rebels a slight edge … MP: West Lincoln 33, East Lincoln 29; DK: West Lincoln 28, East Lincoln 21.

Lincolnton at North Lincoln: DK: The Knights have come out of the gates swinging the last few weeks, jumping out to huge halftime leads against East Lincoln, Maiden and Newton-Conover.  The Wolves better be prepared to handle the initial surge, or they could find themselves down quick. The Knights have blocked four punts over their last three games … DK: North Lincoln 42, Lincolnton 12; MP: North Lincoln 49, Lincolnton 13.

Newton-Conover at Maiden: DK: This is one of two huge games tonight in the South Fork 2A.  While I don’t see anyone overtaking North Lincoln for the conference championship, the rest of the field is playing for MaxPreps rankings and better seeding come playoff time.  This one is likely to be a shootout … DK: Newton-Conover 42, Maiden 41; MP: Newton-Conover 28, Maiden 21.

Bandys at Lake Norman Charter: DK: The Trojans still have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs, and this is certainly a game they have to have.  Bandys should take care of business … DK: Bandys 38, Lake Norman Charter 20; MP: Bandys 35, Lake Norman Charter 6.

MP:  Pine Lake Prep at Cherryville: MP: I heard a report that Cherryville has about ten players sidelined by injuries, some of whom play both ways. That’s a big hit for a team that started the season with depth issues … MP: Pine Lake Prep 28, Cherryville 7; DK: Pine Lake Prep 31, Cherryville 14.

Bunker Hill at Patton: DK: The Bears have won four straight games after a 1-4 start, and aren’t looking to end that string any time soon.  The Panthers have struggled somewhat to put points on the board … DK: Bunker Hill 27, Patton 13; MP: Bunker Hill 21, Patton 8.

South Point at Chase: MP: The Trojans (7-2, 2-2) are having a good season, but they have struggled against the top tier teams on the schedule. South Point will present a formidable challenge as well. Even though the Red Raiders are traveling under the radar, so to speak, a win here gives them a shot at a co-championship in the regular season finale against Shelby … MP: South Point 35, Chase 20; DK: South Point 31, Chase 21.

Forestview at Kings Mountain: The Mountaineers have had two weeks to prepare for a good Forestview team, so they will not be caught looking ahead to the regular season finale against Crest in a game with conference title implications … MP: Kings Mountain 42, Forestview 21; DK: Kings Mountain 49, Forestview 28.

South Caldwell at St Stephens: DK: This appears to be one of the best matchups of the night.  Both teams are 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference.  Flip a coin … DK: South Caldwell 28, St. Stephens 27; MP: South Caldwell 20, St. Stephens 15.

Watauga at Freedom: MP: Watauga (9-1, 5-0) has already clinched a share of the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference title and can complete an unbeaten run through the league in its regular season finale. The home-standing Patriots may be the second-best team in the conference, so things might get interesting … MP: Watauga 35, Freedom 24; DK: Watauga 37, Freedom 28.

Last week: Mike 8-2; David 7-3

Overall: David 83-17; Mike 81-19
