West Lincoln 5, Cherryville 0
The Lady Rebels (1-0) managed just two hits, but that was enough to pick up a 5-0 season-opening win over Cherryville (0-1) Friday afternoon in Vale.
After scoring a single run in the bottom of the first inning, West Lincoln opened the lead up with a 3-run second, highlighted by Morgan Chapman’s two-run double. The Lady Rebels added an insurance run in the sixth.
Alyson Eaker and Katie Willis combined to pitch a 5-hit shutout. Eaker pitched the first four innings, picking up the win, with Willis throwing the final three.
Five different Cherryville batters had hits for the Lady Ironmen.
West Lincoln will host Bessemer City on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while Cherryville will play at Hunter Huss today at 4:15 p.m.

The Rebels lost their season opener despite out-hitting the Tigers 9-3. West Lincoln led 3-1 after 4-1/2 innings before Foard put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to take control.
Samuel Duncan, Chandler Carpenter. Nathan Beam and Judd Harrelson all had two hits to lead the Rebels, who will host East Burke today at 4:30 p.m. Chris Moxley allowed six runs (2 earned) over 4.1 innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Beam pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out 4 and walking 4.
Foard is scheduled to host Maiden today at 4:30 p.m.
