Randolph County 5, Cherryville 4
Cherryville Post 100 suffered their first loss of pool play, dropping a 5-4 decision to Area III champion Randolph County in front of a packed house at Fraley Field in Cherryville.
Post 45 scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI triple from Trevor Marsh and a pair of infield errors by the Cherryville defense to tie the game at four all, then added the go-ahead run in the sixth when Harris Jackson was hit by a pitch with two outs and a fly ball in the outfield was misplayed.
Cherryville’s Levi Kiser was hit by a pitch with two outs in the home half of the sixth inning but failed to score, and got a leadoff walk to Robbie Cowie in the seventh but failed to get him in as well.
Cowie led Post 100 at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a home run and a walk. Wes Reynolds RBI single in the fourth was the only other hit of the game for Cherryville.
Trevor Marsh got the win in relief for Randolph County, and also had a big run-scoring triple for Post 45. Zande Beaver took the loss for Post 100.
Cherryville (29-11) still advances to Monday’s semifinal round, where they’ll take on Wilmington Post 10 in the second game of the day at 7:30 p.m. Randolph County will take on Fuquay-Varina in the first semifinal at 6:30 p.m.
