Cherryville 10, Kinston 1
By David Keever
Post 100 belted three home runs and Seth Willis pitched five-plus solid innings as Cherryville rolled past Kinston 10-1 in the final game on Friday at Fraley Field.
After Willis picked up three of his 12 strikeouts in the top of the first inning, Post 100’s Wes Reynolds led off the bottom frame with a solo home run over the leftfield fence. Following an infield error that allowed Robbie Cowie to reach safely, Colson Miller connected on a 2-run shot that extended the lead to 3-0.
Cherryville added a single run in the second on Cowie’s RBI fielder’s choice, and three more in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Zach Wilson.
Post 100 got another solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, this time from Jared Emory, and added two more runs on a Wes Reynolds’ RBI single and a run-scoring fielder’s choice off the bat of Samuel Duncan.
Kinston’s only run of the game came after a Jayden Gatling base hit, stolen base and a pair of errant throws in the top of the third.
Wilson went 4 for 4 at the plate to lead Post 100 at the plate, with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Reynolds added three hits, including the homer, with a pair of RBIs.
Willis was again outstanding on the mound, throwing 53 strikes in his 77 pitches. The West Lincoln graduate allowed just one run on one hit, striking out 12 and walking only one.
Post 100 will take on Area IV foe Union County Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
