Lane Harrill (far right) tied a school scoring record with 51 points as Cherryville rallied from 27 down at the half to beat North Lincoln 91-90 in overtime Thursday night at Nixon Gym.
Harrill sent the game into overtime with a three-pointer at the buzzer. Jeremy Varela got the game-winning shot on a layup and converted a free throw with three seconds left in OT.
Harrill, a 6-3 senior guard who committed to Mars Hill University via Twitter, also had 11 rebounds in his record-breaking performance.
Guard Lavonte Hughes added 23 points and handed out 10 assists while Dylan Harden had six points and 12 rebounds for the Ironmen.
“It was a night to remember,” Cherryville coach Scott Harrill said. “Hot shooting in the third quarter cut the lead in half. We were still down seven with one minute 30 seconds to go.”
Lane scored 20 of his 51 in the fourth quarter, and Hughes scored eight to key the rally. Freshman Carson Kelly stepped up to hit a 3-pointer and three free throws in the fourth quarter.
Kenny Poston II set the current Cherryville record with 51 points in a playoff game in 2013.
